The Bernath Center, led by professional staff and trained
volunteers, offers those who are physically healthy, yet whose independence
is hindered by memory and other cognitive impairment, like Alzheimer,
a chance to engage in social and recreational activities.
The program gives individuals with dementia an outlet where they
are treated with respect and dignity and encouraged to join in structured
activities. Participants engage in therapeutic programs of music,
conversation, art, and exercise designed to enhance existing functioning.
To keep the atmosphere intimate and friendly, the size of the program
is limited. Caregivers receive respite knowing their loved ones are
in a safe environment. The Center is licensed by the State of California
Department of Health Services.
Eligibility: Memory impaired adults like Alzheimer, who are able
(with assistance) to come to the program and participate in social
activities.
Hours: Monday though Friday 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
Transportation: Available for an additional fee.
Rates: Fee-for-service basis: $67 per day. Some insurance companies
offer coverage.
